A weekend away in...

Mexico City

Easily one of the best cities in the world, Mexico City captured my heart instantaneously when I landed for the first time in 2015 and continued to do so through my relocation in 2022. There is so much to do here, even a lifetime of exploration wouldn’t be enough, but as we have a weekend, here’s what I suggest:

Start your day with…
An almond milk cappuccino and a banana bread at Cafe Cucuruchu
An almond croissant and a housemade chai at Nice Day Cafe

Then head to one of my favorite museums or sites…
Museo Nacional de Antropología (Chapultepec)
Museo Nacional de Historia (Chapultepec)
Museo de Arte Popular (Centro)
MUNAL (Centro)
Museo Soumaya Casa Guillermo Tovar de Teresa (Roma Norte)
Plaza de las Tres Culturas (Tlatelolco)

Have a late lunch or dinner amongst locals at…
MUX for innovative Mexican (Roma Norte)
Il Fiorino for Italian (Roma Sur)
El Rey de la Comida Libanesa for Lebanese (Cuauhtémoc)
Rokai for Sushi (Cuauhtémoc)
La Opera for an iconic, fancy cantina experience (Centro)
Provocateur Wine Bar & Tienda for Wine & Tapas (Roma Norte)
Salazar for seafood & views (Reforma)
Literally any street cart, anywhere, anytime, for tacos.

Hotels:
Círculo Méxicano (Centro) If only for the rooftop pool, sweeping downtown views, and trendy atmosphere.
Roso Guest House (Roma Norte) A friend stayed here, loved it, and left with a bag of local treats.
Pug Seal (Polanco) Both locations, Anatole & Allan Poe, are brilliantly designed. Allan Poe even offers temazcal experiences in the garden.
Hotel San Fernando (Condesa) Located on a leafy green street, this adorable boutique offers breakfast on the rooftop, a great bar with direct street access, trendy design. And giant pink umbrellas for those inevitable rainy summers.

Activity Suggestions:
Authentic Mexican Hands-On Cooking Class with Aura Cocina Mexicana which includes a street food tasting, market visit, and a 4 course meal (with mezcal!)
Immersive CDMX or Cable Car Tour with Warrior Experiences
Mezcal tasting or cocktail class at the super chic Salon Rosario
Sunrise tour at Xochimilco with ArcaTierra, especially optimal if you’re traveling alone but still want a boat experience.
